It comes rigged with quality American split rings and Monster Gamakatsu 323 worm hooks. The ball shape avoids twisting and spinning on the drop. In testing, the glow paint and big eyes out-fished plain lead. The CYCLOPS works very well with all softbaits. A favourite bait for this rig is the "paddletail" or pogy style lure. The weight of the rig gets the paddle on the lure really vibrating fast on the drop and it is often taken on the drop.
How To Fish Them
Jerkshad type baits: Drop to the bottom and twitch every now and then. It is also good to wind it up up to 10M or so off the bottom and drop back down again.
Paddletails: Don't be afraid to really weight the lure up with the 4oz rig, this really gets the paddle humming on the drop and fish nail them while there swimming to the bottom. Slow your fishing down with the paddle tail just lift you rod every now and then so the lure swims up and down off the bottom, also wind up and fish the bottom 1/3 of the water column as the fish will often chase the lure up then nail it on the drop. The fish can see the lure a lot better when its not hard on the bottom, so take this in to consideration when your developing a fishing style for these rigs. Often Snapper are caught well off the bottom.
This rig is also dynamite with a Paddletail for Kingfish, once again do not be afraid to use the 4oz rig to get the paddeltail vibrating through the water.
