Shimano's flagship threadlines, just keep getting better and better every year. After thousands of hours of testing, Shimano engineers conclusively established that a cold-forged aluminium drive gear and specially hardened brass pinion gear was the best outcome in terms of metals, processing, and tooth design to provide continuously smooth gear performance - this was to be called the Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement.
In addition, the new Propulsion Line Management System starts with a friction-free Propulsion Spool Lip that allows line to flow off the spool in smaller loops, meaning less line slap, friction and subsequent reduction in casting distance. A one piece bail arm wire sees line travelling unimpeded straight to the bail roller, again with less friction and tangles, and the Power Roller II bail arm roller has a specially designed groove to reduce line twist. Aerowrap II is a worm gear oscillation system that uses two different speeds to give a slight criss-cross line lay so that braided line in particular can't dig into the under layers. It also provides flatter line lay that ultimately contributes to casting distance, and less casting energy loss. The Stellas also utilise the Rigid Support System and Rigid Support Drag (no distortion under heavy loads), have a waterproof drag seal, and Shimano's new Shielded anti-Rust bearings (SA-RB).
