Soft Bait Combos

Softbait fishing is the latest and greatest way to catch fish. Lightweight rods and reels and superfine braid mean every bite is felt and every fish is fun to catch. And there’s good evidence that fish are generally bigger on softbaits than normal baits.

There are two types of reel commonly used for softbaits. A good quality spinning reel with all alloy body and rotor, enough saltwater resistant ball bearings, alloy spool, good quality bail arm roller, infinite anti-reverse and a powerful drag able to fish superbraid to its limit. A compact overhead reel with a metal spool, well supported spindle and powerful drag system.

A levelwind system is an advantage as it neatly lays the line on the reel but it is not essential. Rods are typically made from graphite for strength and lightness & 7 foot plus. Do take care of the tips they won’t stand being point loaded like a fibreglass rod will.
